ChatGPT launches new desktop app for Mac with enhanced AI integration

OpenAI has launched a desktop app for ChatGPT on Mac, initially available for Plus and Team subscribers, with a broader release planned in the coming weeks. The app requires macOS 14 and an Apple Silicon chip (M1 or better). Key features include quick queries via a keyboard shortcut (Option + Space) and the ability to take and discuss screenshots directly within the app. It also integrates voice conversation capabilities and works with photos. This new app is designed to seamlessly integrate into users' workflows, enhancing productivity and ease of use.

Improvements in ChatGPT:

OpenAI has also streamlined ChatGPT’s web interface for a smoother user experience and introduced its new GPT-4o model, which will be available free for all users. This model promises significant improvements in ChatGPT’s capabilities, making it a more versatile and accessible tool.

Integration with Apple’s AI Projects:

In addition to the ChatGPT app release for Mac, Apple is advancing its AI projects with the introduction of the M4 chip. This new chip, designed from the ground up for AI, offers significantly improved performance with a processing capability of up to 38 trillion operations per second. The M4 will be integrated into the new iPads Pro and is expected to power future updates of Macs.

Apple Intelligence:

Apple has also introduced Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system that uses advanced generative models to enhance user experience across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple Intelligence facilitates everyday tasks such as searching for photos and videos, creating personalized memories, and enhanced interaction with Siri, which can now understand and execute more complex and contextual commands.

Requirements for Apple Intelligence:

iPhones: Apple Intelligence will be available on the latest devices, specifically the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which are necessary to support the advanced capabilities of this technology.
iPads: The iPads that will support Apple Intelligence include iPad Pro models with the M1 chip and later, and the iPad Air with the M1 chip and later.
Macs: For Macs, compatibility includes the latest models equipped with the M1 chip and later versions, such as the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro.
